Are you using an older version of Windows 10? The Update Assistant will display a notification

In May, Microsoft announced that it would automatically initiate the update process on computers with an approaching end date, which was primarily to apply to the April 2018 Update and earlier versions. We wrote about the first step in this topic a few days ago, when the notification of the recommended update began to appear in Windows Update. Now you no longer have to go to Settings to view them. The Update Assistant will take care of it.

Microsoft has announced that users of Windows 10 versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703 or 1709 can expect to be notified that the device must have the latest security updates installed before attempting to update it. How to react to them?

We recommend upgrading all previous versions to Windows 10 1809 to continue to receive security and quality updates to protect against the latest threats.
Windows 10 version 1507, version 1511, version 1607 and version 1703 will soon cease to be supported. This means that devices using these operating systems no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that include protection against the latest threats.

However, if you do not want to update the system or view notifications, you can simply uninstall the Update Assistant. Just run the command C: Windows10Upgrade Windows10UpgraderApp.exe / ForceUninstall and wait for the application to unmount (may take several minutes). You can also skip the notification by manually deleting folders C: Windows Updateassistant and C: Windows10upgrade. As Microsoft adds:

If you cannot delete these folders, start Task Manager (taskmgr.exe) and terminate the UpdateAssistant.exe process and the Windows10UpgraderApp.exe process. Then you can try to delete folders again.

For Windows 10 version 1803, support (support) will end on November 12 this year. This applies to most users. Others using the Enterprise and Education editions have an additional year of support. According to the latest AdDuplex data from the end of September April 2018 Update is on over 24% of devices with Windows 10. After him, Microsoft has released two more updates (1809 and 1903), and at the end of October or beginning of November another (1909) will be released.
