An important novelty in this year's Surface line there is a USB-C port. It also hit Surface Pro X, a rather special tablet with an ARM processor. It has some unique features, but something is missing here. This thing is a headphone jack. It would seem that this is a standard that Microsoft does not intend to give up on Apple's model … And yet.
Pro X is described as the thinnest, lightest, strongest and most connected Surface in history. This is not an exaggeration. The housing with a thickness of only 5.3 mm managed to cram quite a lot, but apparently there was not enough space for a jack socket to connect headphones or speakers. Yes, we have two fast USB-C connectors here, but did they have to be added at the expense of the audio connector?
It's possible that this is an experiment for Microsoft. The giant followed in the footsteps of Google Pixel Slate and the iPhone, which are the most significant determinants of this strange trend. Pro X is the first to follow him. All other Surface devices have a 3.5mm jack connector as standard. In its absence, Microsoft recommends the use of official adapterswhich can be ordered for PLN 54.99:
Surface USB-C ™ is a 3.5mm Audio Adapter
Connect wired earphones or regular headphones to your Surface with this 3.5mm USB-C ™ adapter and receive sound from music, movies and phone calls. Compatible with any Surface computer with a USB-C ™ port.
If we do not want to walk with a not very aesthetic and bulky dongle, we can always use Bluetooth headphones or speakers, such as announced this week Surface Earbuds. However, this is a compromise that many customers will not agree and it's hard to be surprised.
