The autumn update is approaching and approaching … but something can't come close. 19H2 does not have a strictly defined release time frame, although its other designation – version 1909 – may suggest differently. This usually means the month the RTM version was compiled, followed by the release. So it could happen in October, but it doesn't have to be. The new leak even indicates that the premiere may take place only in November.
October 2019 Update, as its unofficial name sounds, debuted in the Slow Ring immediately, and jumped into the Release Preview circle at the end of August. That's when Microsoft released its first ISO image. Of course, this does not mean that the public release must occur in a short time. The time frame is quite wide because it covers the second half of this year.
One of the last signals of approaching general availability (GA) was the release of build 18363.356 under ESD license via WSUS. It happened at the end of September and it could be a sign that this compilation is an RTM version. Unfortunately, this has not yet been officially confirmed, and in the meantime a compilation with a higher revision has been released (.387). A well-known Microsoft editor, Zac Bowden, took the floor in the case:
I hear Microsoft is hoping to have 19H2 signed off by the end of next week. I think we'll be getting a final build very soon. GA later in the month / early Nov.
– Zac Bowden (@zacbowden) October 8, 2019
Bowden was expected to hear that Microsoft hopes to sign up to 19H2 by the end of next week. It assumes that we will receive the final build soon, but the general availability will take place only at the end of the month or even at the beginning of November. So was it getting ready first since 2015 November Update>
Is this a problem? Not at all. October 2019 Update will be a complement, the "Service Pack" for May 2019 Update rather than a large, full-fledged update. That is why this release is not as abundant as previous versions. The novelties will mainly concern notification support, but there were also changes in the areas of the desktop, start menu or lock screen. Microsoft is preparing a real firecracker in the spring of next year, and it will be May 2020 Update.
